printing index cards

Any way to print index cards?

You can export the contents of any project item by selecting File>Export>Project Items, and then checking off the project items you want to export and selecting how you want them exported (e.g., RTF).

But if you want to print off an index card as an index card, that option isn't available inside of Storyist (yet). Outside of Storyist, you could take a screenshot of an index card, properly cropped, and print that.

If you wish, you could make "printing index cards" a feature request.

By the way, you are aware that you can print the contents of the index card from within Storyist? It just won't look like an index card in the printout.

Any index card displays the summary field of the sheet associated with it. So if you have, say, a section sheet displayed as an index card, the text on the card is the summary for the section. Click on the card to select it and click on the leftmost icon of the three icons in the top right corner (the one that just has lines, not a pseudo-outline or rectangles representing cards) to get text mode. View > as Text and Command-1 do the same thing. Then choose File > Print, and the whole sheet will print, either in Normal Mode or in Print Mode depending on how you have the view menu set up.

Before printing, you may want to fill in the rest of the sheet. I find them quite useful, as they force me to think about what the conflict actually is in a given scene (or whether there is any conflict at all).

Same thing works for settings, characters, plot points, and the like. The printing will stretch across multiple pages, but you can only print one sheet at a time.

Best,

Marguerite
