  3. Hi EMP360, Welcome to the forums. What error messages are you seeing? If you use the Blurb template, Storyist will make sure the PDF has the correct number of pages for the Blurb presses by adding blank pages if necessary. Could KDP be complaining that the PDF has the wrong number of pages for their signatures? If so, you could use Preview to add or remove blank pages to match the KDP specs. You could also use the general template instead. See the tutorial titled Customizing Your Book Design for information (and sample files) about adding your own design elements. -Steve

  6. Hi dogpack, Welcome to the forums. To start a new project: Create a new project from the Novel template using the File > New Project command. Click on the "My Manuscript" file in the project view. Click on some text in the file, select all, and press delete. Start typing. You'll find more information in the tutorial titled Setting Up Storyist for NaNoWriMo. Good luck getting to 50k! -Steve

  8. Hi Dann, Thanks for checking out the new features! Be sure to also check out the two new tutorials: Working with Styes Creating a PDF for Print Both tutorials include sample projects. Storyist adds blank pages so that the PDF conforms to Blurb's specifications: Files must have an even number of pages, Page counts for 5x8 and 6x9 books must be divisible by six. To see the full list of requirements, visit the Blurb PDF to Book page and click on the "Review PDF Settings" tab. By the way, if you were to upload a PDF that didn't meet these specifications to the Blurb site, their verifier would warn you of this and offer to add the blank pages for you (so you'd still pay the same amount ). These requirements may sound odd, but there is a method to the madness. The page restriction is due to the way the books are printed. You'll find a nice writeup in this article: Understanding and Working with Print Signatures. When building the PDF, Storyist applies the styles from the template you've chosen. If you don't want this to happen, simply uncheck the "Apply formatting from template" checkbox. A WYSIWYG template would be a nice addition. You can import the template files into the project by clicking on the Action (gear) button in the Files table and choosing Advanced > Import Template to Project. If you do this, you'll have access to the style sheets, and can edit the files and use them as a basis for your own PDF template. -Steve

The new book editor lets you add front matter (like a table of contents); specify verso/recto pages; and set trim size, margins, and bleed. Blurb Trade Book Templates. Storyist has partnered with Blurb, a popular self-publishing platform, to provide you with book creation and distribution tools that make it easy to print and sell your work. Use the included print-optimized templates to quickly build beautiful Blurb Trade Books. Split and Merge Tools. You can now split and merge text files. Page numbers can now be displayed as roman numerals. Support for macOS High Sierra. Bug Fixes and Performance Improvements Fixed a bug in style editor preventing edited styles from being applied to the text in certain circumstances. Fixed a bug preventing styles that inherit from styles with a heading level from having a body text level. When you delete a template in the template chooser, Storyist now deletes the associated plist file in the application support directory. Storyist no longer crashes in certain rare circumstances when changing the outline popup in the navigation bar. Large text files now load faster.   11. Hi kortuem, By default, Storyist is set up to use the tab key for style and snipped shortcuts. You can disable this in two ways: To change the setting for all files, open the Preferences window, select the text editing pane, and uncheck the "Enable Tab key shortcuts" checkbox. To change the setting for just the file you're working on, open the file inspector (View > Inspector > File Info), select the "Use the following values" checkbox, and make sure the "Enable tab key shortcuts" checkbox is unchecked. You can edit the tab stops (if desired) by Turning on the ruler (View > Layout > Show Rulers), clicking and dragging. Opening the format inspector (View > Inspector > Format) and entering the values in the Tabs pane. -Steve

  15. Hi chaarrliie, Thank you for the screencast. You shouldn't see that second Section Text style appear after pasting. I can't reproduce what you're seeing here. Could you send a project with just that file to the support address? If it's a Storyist issue, I'll fix it for you right away. It would be helpful to know what Mac you're using and what version of macOS. -Steve
  16. Hi chaarrliie, Copy and pasting within a manuscript should preserve the style/outline information. If is not what you're seeing, please send a short exerpt to the support address that shows the issue, and I'll take a look right away. Due to the limitations of Apple's pasteboard RTF implementation, when you copy from one file and paste into another file in Storyist for Mac, the style definitions don't follow the formatted text, so you'll need to add these styles to the destination file manually. The easiest way to do this is to use the Format > Style > Change Stylesheet > Project Stylesheet command and then choose your source manuscript as the source for the stylesheet. I know this is a little clunky. Storyist for iOS does handle the style defininition import for you (so if you're using Storyist for iOS too, this might be an option), and this functionality is on the "back to the Mac" list for this summer. -Steve
  17. Hi Ginger, The arrow is visible in the format inspector when the cursor is positioned in some text (and not in, say, the project view). It's only red if the selection overrides the style that is applied to the selected text. I've attached a screenshot of the Novel template on Sierra 10.12.4 showing what you should expect to see. Let me know if this isn't what you're seeing and we'll investigate. -Steve

  19. Hi chaarrliie, Welcome to the forums. Thanks for the kind words about Storyist for iOS. macOS implements autocorrect a little differently than iOS does, but it should work just fine. If it's not, check that both the "Check Spelling While Typing" and "Correct Spelling Automatically" are set in the Edit > Spelling Menu. If that doesn't do the trick, let me know a little more about what you're seeing and what versions of macOS and Storyist you're using. -Steve
  20. Hi DonDon, You're running into an apparent bug in 10.12.4 that affects printing text at zoom factors that are not ratios of small integers. You're not the only one. Here is the work-around for Storyist 3.4.2 and earlier: Open your project and navigate to the text file you want to print. Set the zoom factor to 100%, 125%, 150%, or 175%. (You can use the View > Zoom > Zoom Out/In menu command to do this). Choose File > Print. Storyist 3.4.3 sets the zoom factor for you if you're running Sierra (and then sets it back after printing). This version is currently in testing, but you're welcome to use it. You can download it here. -Steve
  21. Hi Eugenia, If you're mostly on Windows these days and are planning to purchase Scrivener for Windows, you'll probably want to keep your projects in Scrivener format. Storyist for Mac can import and export Scrivener projects. Storyist for iOS can edit Scrivener projects directly. -Steve

  23. Hi Ginger, Happy to help. A couple of points (pun intended ) 1. The file format didn't change between version 2 and 3. You can, for example, open a file edited in Storyist 3 in Storyist 2. The only difference you'll see is that session word count history edited in v3 isn't displayed in v2. If you're seeing different formatting in v3, check the page size in Print Info and make sure it is what you expect. If that's not it, send a short excerpt to the support address and we'll investigate. The formatting should be the same. 2. You can type in your desired units, regardless of the units used for display. Storyist will do the conversion for you. For example, place the cursor in the Before Paragraph field in the inspector and type ".25 in" That field displays units in points, so the value you type is automatically converted to "18 pt" It does look like the inspector displays Before and After measurements in points and the style editor in inches. The values aren't any different, they're just displayed in different units. I'll fix that. -Steve
  24. Hi Andy, Yes. You'll want to edit the heading levels in the stylesheet to reflect your desired structure. Here is a screencast with more information: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U_bVCzIQeiI You can create a collage for each section in your manuscript by switching to storyboard mode and then selecting the section in the project view. The Users Guide has some more information about working with collages and cork boards here. -Steve
