Thoth's Humerus.

Recommended Posts

Hi everybody. I'm sorry I haven"t been able to chime in lately and I'm feeling a little guilty about it, actually. But there's a reason: early in September I shattered the bone in my upper right arm (the humerus). Sadly, it was nothing heroic -- although I'm looking for a good story to tell people. Any suggestions?

What actually happened is that I took a nasty spill in my own home. A front wheel on my wheelchair broke off and sent me flying into the Earth at Warp 9. Worst possible timing too. I was alone and wasn't expecting anybody. I was trapped like an overturned turtle for four hours until the blinding pain in my arm diminished enough for me to drag my body with my good arm, across the floor and out of the house. I waited there for a good neighbor to come by and lend a hand.

NY EMS rushed me to Einstein ER which, after 12 hours, admitted me to the hospital proper. After a very unpleasent six days they told me that if I ever want to use my right arm again I'm going to need extensive rehabilitation. They sent me directly to Kings Harbor Multicare Center.

KHMC had a good rehab staff but it's no place to live: they only have one computer with (56kbps!)Internet access for all the patients and they don't allow laptops or cellphones. As you might imagine, gettin a turn can be difficult. (Someone is already giving me the fish eye as I type this.) And one-handed typing is only acceptable at porn sites.

I'm still going to be here a while. I'll keep in touch when I can.

Thank you all for your good wishes and funny PMs.

My pun for the doctors: A busted humerus isn't humorous.

(Oh, you so saw that coming. Admit it.)

-Thoth

Well, I had been exerting my imagination to come up with various wild explanations for your long silence, but the trouble is, I suspect you'd much have preferred to undergo any one of the experiences I dreamed up (especially the one where a new lady love who turned out to be an EAO snagged you with a tie and demanded that you abandon the forums as the price for her devotion) rather than what did happen, which rather takes the fun (dare one say the humer?) out of them.

Well, perhaps you wouldn't have liked being a wealthy Colombian drug lord after your cover was blown and the Feds hauled you off to durance vile, thus severing your connections with the forums and preventing you from beta-testing the latest releases. I'm sure you would have enjoyed the pre-arrest life, though.

So hurry up and get well, so that you can return to the land of Broadband. It's been horribly quiet around these boards since you were injured! **Hurls baskets of Overmuffins and Overcookies (chocolate chip, mmmm) your way. What, you wanted Over-roses?**

Steve, perhaps you can have bookmarks ready for him when he returns?

Best,

Marguerite

After consultations with my doctors, they all agree that bookmarks would be the fastest way to mend bones and stretch atrophied tendons.

I'm leaning towards "kidnapped by love-starved overladies" as my cover story.

Thanks M.

I'm back home.

After a month of therapy (etcetera) they turned me loose with home care visits. I can actually touch the small of my back and the back of my head now (with effort). But best off all, I can type two-handed. Back to the old grindstone.

Yippee!

Welcome home! Take it easy. Rest up for Nano.

Glad those overladies had second thoughts! Welcome back, and hope you're completely recovered soon.

Best,

Aw, and I missed the whole thing! :D Thoth, you'll have to imagine my good-natured ribbing, okay? Glad you're okay.

Misses all the good stuff,

Be glad you missed it, Lady C. It was scary. :o Whole topics were posted with no input from Thoth. After I checked his profile to see just how long it had been and discovered he'd wiped out all his personal info, I was sure he had found religion and given up associating with our merry band. And with Isaac busy with the new job and you on the road, the message count on the boards barely budged for days.

But the poor man had just been snagged by an Evil Alien Overlady slinging a tie around his wheelchair and chucking him to the ground. Bad EAO! :D Now that she's repented, he is once more able to work on his next 1,000 posts.

Or something like that. :D

Good luck with the unpacking. So much more rewarding than packing, methinks.

I know! Only 55 posts! So sad. :D But you, Lady M, in the grand tradition of Russian literature, managed to fill the gap with a goodly set of POHS (Posts Of Heroic Size, if not number). My hat, and sling, not to mention my tie and corset, are off to you.

Now if you'll excuse me, a pulchritudinous EAO, who has seen the error of her EA ways, is calling me for my noon shoulder massage. (Let's hope there's a happy ending :D )

A Heroine Mother of Socialist Labor (pun intended) Red Star for me, indeed! :D

But it was a lonely endeavor, and not one I wish to repeat.

May the shoulder improve rapidly.
