I just replied to your email to support. Don't worry, we'll get to the bottom of it.
Some early versions of Catalina had an issue that caused saved window state to be corrupted, which could cause problems when reopening an app. If you think you might be running into this, hold down the Option key when reopening Storyist. This will cause Storyist to skip the window restoration step.

Hi Anysia,
Could you let me know where in the world you're downloading from? I don't see a problem in the US, but the content is hosted by Amazon, and it's possible that they served an outdated version to you. I can reset the cache if that's the case.
Here are a couple of things to check:
- Make sure that you're opening the correct Storyist.dmg file. If you've downloaded Storyist in the past (say, for example, during the last NaNoWriMo), you may have multiple versions of the file in your Downloads folder.
- If you have multiple versions of Storyist on your computer and you're opening the app by clicking on a document, make sure you're opening the correct version.

It looks like you're running last year's special NaNoWriMo trial version, which expired on December 15th.
You can download the regular trial version from https://update.storyist.com/downloads/Storyist.dmg, which will start your trial period when you first launch it.

The styles in the story sheets are fixed. If you're able to temporarily change the font color in a story sheet, you've found a bug. Apologies for the inconvenience. I'll investigate.
Changing styles in story sheets is a feature request that's been on the list for quite a while and is something I hope to get to later this year.

We corresponded at the support address, but I missed your post here. For others who are interested:
There isn't currently a query or synopsis template, but you can create one if you want. To do this:
1. Create a new text file in your current project.
2. Enter the text for the template and style it to taste. [1]
3. Choose File > Save as Template.
4. When the template dialog appears, make sure the "Save as" popup says "Text File Template" and enter a name and category for the template.
5. Click Save.
Your template is now available in the template chooser, and you can add it to other projects as well.

Welcome to the forums.
To remove the page number from the first page:
- Open the Format inspector (Command + Option + 2) and check the "Different first page header" checkbox in the "Headers & Footers" section.
- Position the cursor in the header, select the page number, and press the Delete key.
I've attached a screenshot in case it helps.
In this case, you won't need to change the starting number (the second page will still have the number "2"), but you can do that if you need to by entering a value in the "Start at" field in the "Page Numbers" section.

Apologies for the delayed reply.
The iOS version doesn't yet support widows and orphan control, which is why a character name can end up at the bottom of a page with the next paragraph (the dialog) on the following page.
This feature is on the list for a future release, but I don't have a date for you. The widow and orphan processing takes quite a bit of processing power, and the original iPad Mini and some older phones are a little underpowered for the job.

Hopefully when Steve digests all that turkey and finished spending his Storyist windfall profits as part of his Black Friday binge, we'll see how feasible this is.
Back in the saddle and catching up on the email.
Auto numbering is already on the list. It is conceptually simple. The only trick is in making sure the performance is acceptable in long manuscripts.

This was something that was on the 1.0 list for a while. I'm always surprised to discover how often my characters "grin" as they "turn to face" another character in the course of a manuscript. It would be good to include phrase frequency too.
As long as we're talking about analysis, how about an adverb finder?

Exporting a PDF
in Using Storyist for iPad

Hi Anthony,
You can export a PDF from a Storyist project by selecting the script in the folder view, selecting Share from the more menu, and choosing PDF as the export type. You can't currently do that from a script outside a Storyist project, but that feature is coming later this summer.
