Hi,

When I check "Different first page header" then click in the header and insert page numbers it numbers them accordingly.

1, 3, 4, 5, 6

I would obviously prefer that it didn't skip page #2.

If I try to go in and manually change the page number then all page numbers reflect the current page number. For instance all pages would read

2, 2, 2, 2, 2

How is this resolved?

Thanks for your time and consideration,

Tim

Hi trdumas,

Your first method (inserting a page number field) is the correct way to autonumber the pages.

On the numbering: It sounds like when you checked "Different first page header" you also changed the Page Numbering settings from "Use default value" to "Start at 2."

To simply omit the first page numbering:

  1. Leave the Page Numbering setting at "Use default value" or change it to "Start at 1."
  2. Check the "Different first page header" checkbox.
  3. Delete the page number from the first page.

Thanks for the prompt reply Steve.

I don't think I was clear that would be my fault. I've tried it a few ways in different permutations.

Below is my desired outcome and different ways I have tried to accomplish it.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Desired Outcome

I want the second page to start numbering with "1"

1. Check "different first page header"

2. A. Check "Use default value"

B. Delete number from the first page

Outcome

This results in the first numbered page being "2" note this is the second actual page

1. Check "different first page header"

2. A. Delete number from the first page

B. Insert cursor in header on second page

C. Check "Start at" enter "1"

Outcome

This results in the first numbered page being "1" and the second numbered page being "3" it skips numbering a page "#2"

1. Delete each page number and enter the desired number

2. wash rinse repeat

Outcome

All page numbers change to the last number entered. Thus with five pages all pages are number 5.

Thanks for your time and consideration,

Tim
