Storyist story export to white blank PDF file....

I've just finished writing a SF story of 268 pages, 60K words.  I have beta readers lined up. When I export the story to PDF file, all I got was white blank ages with only page numbering (1 to 269) showing, but all pages were white blank pages.  Followed different solutions - check for zoom percentage, ensure checks are marked...I check mark "novel". that didn't work.  So I tried check mark all of the listing..still blank pages.  Out of curiosity, within PDF I activated find word...I used a word that I  knew is in Storyist story.  "None found".   So apparently only pages were shown.  What am I doing wrong?

Roy,

How are you actually exporting to PDF? Are you building a PDF within Storyist with the ‘Build PDF’ button? Are you selecting the SF manuscript and going up to Files->Export…?

Both those options work for me.

Tony,

I presume you mean File -> New -> Book, then select Create, and you are given five options, one of which is PDF Edition. On selecting the PDF Edition, it is highlighted, and you select Choose. At this point, it creates a "PDF Edition" file IN Storyist, which can be renamed if required, and a four-page formatted document is created with the 'Lorem ipsum ... text. It is this PDF file that you will replace with your book text. Have you achieved that result?

Tony,

I wrote the above response late last night and hit the return key too soon. After "Have you achieved that result?" I meant to ask if that was the PDF file you are trying to export.

In the clear of the day, I see that after Export, you tapped the button "Select All" followed by "Book" in the drop-down list of Export. Unfortunately, you can't use "Book" in this situation because files like Plot, Scenes, Characters etc, aren't part of a published book. They will come out as a blank page, just as you found.

It appears Storyist will only allow you to export text files. I'm sure Steve will correct me if that is wrong. So after export, you should only select those files that are text or built PDF files as per my previous msg. I wasn't able to get the "Book" option to work only the "Files" option. From there it depends on what files you have selected as to whether you receive a single or multiple PDF files. The whole point of the Export is to produce a printable book or ebook.

I hope that helps.

Correct, just while Exporting.

So I re-tried and selected just certain text files and not All.  I kept "Book" as Export and PDF as Format.  Clicked Next on Step 1 and 2.  Named the PDF but...Same Thing.  The file size is understanablly a little smaller but still all pages are BLANK.

WORKAROUND:  I select the text files, choose "Files" in Export and UNcheck "Preserve folder structure." I get separate PDF files BUT since they're all exported at the same time, the files are not in order of the book! So now I'm ending up have to add "1" "2" etc in front of the files (in the app) so I know what order they go.  More Annoying and more Work.

NEW ISSUE:  If I accidentally select a text file I don't want and click "Back" (from Step 1 of 2) and De-Select the file, it DOESN'T get removed from the Files list (when you click Next again).   I have to Cancel and start again.  Quite Annoying.
