Major freakout after updating!!!!!

I updated Storyist with the new version ten minutes ago. Now, when I try to open my novel, it won't open. There is nothing there. It gives me an "untitled" doc with nothing in it, or doesn't open anything at all. Every other project opens fine, but my 126,000 WIP does not. Am VERY freaked out about this. Please help!

OK, we'll get you up and running with your WIP.

First, you can download the previous version here: http://update.storyist.com/downloads/Storyist-2.3.1.dmg

If you want, you can use that while we figure out what is going on.

Let me ask you a few questions:

1) Did you also update to Lion when you updated Storyist? If not, what version of OS X are you running?

2) Did you make any other changes to your system besides updating Storyist?

3) I assume you were running Storyist 2.3.1 before updating, but if not, do you remember which version you were running?

4) Does your WIP open in Storyist 2.3.1?

1) No Lion - I'm still operating under snow leopard.

2) No other changes. I upgraded my hard drive last week, but everything has been operational since then, including storyist and my WIP.

3) I'm not sure what version I was running - but I tend to update whenever I get the message so I was probably on the latest

4) The link to 2.3.1 gets me a 404 message, unfortunately.

Thanks for your quick reply. Hopefully we can get this fixed quickly!

Sorry for the broken link. The forum software appended a period to the link. It should be fixed now. Let me know what you see with 2.3.1.

Also, if there are any Storyist-related messages in the console log, please post them here. You can see the console log by opening the Console application (in your /Applications/Utilities folder) and clicking on "Console Messages" in the list on the left.

OK, so you were using an older version than 2.3.1. That makes sense, as there were very few changes between 2.3.1 and 2.3.3.

From the console log, it looks like there is an issue with the workspace that was saved with the file. The problem could be due to a bug in Storyist, a corrupt workspace file in your Storyist project(s), or a corrupt entry in your user preferences.

If you didn't empty the Trash after updating, you'll find your old version of Storyist there. Try opening your file with that version (and please let me know which version that is so I can use that here too). If it opens, simply revert to the Single View workspace an save the file. It is likely you'll be able to open the file with later versions.

If that doesn't work, I'd be happy to take a look at the file for you (if you're comfortable sending it). I'll PM you my email address.

-Steve
