Using the tab key

I'm very new to using Storyist. It says that tab is not available. Will I ever be able to use this function or do I somehow need to "turn it on?" Thanks in advance.

You set it, I think through Preferences in the Storyist menu (I don't have Storyist open at the moment). If you're preparing a novel for print, though, be aware that the industry standard is to use first-line indents, not tabs.
